Returning Not a Minute Too Soon
(Posted September 11, 2020)
"Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God.
That shall be a better light, and safer than a known way."
Louise Haskins, "The Gate of the Year”
Last night after watching a newscast filled with a hellish, smoking orange western landscape, multiple shootings, betrayals of trust, and rage-filled people, I said to myself, we are returning for worship in our church Sanctuary, not a minute too soon!
That’s right. This Sunday at 10 a.m. we will gather, face-to-masked face, in person inside the church building. We will hear Jim’s beautiful music once again in person. We will hear the words of justice from the pulpit. We may be sitting in other than our usual, favorite pew, due to the spacing of social distancing, but one thing remains constant: It’s Homecoming Sunday!
Church Services on Sunday
Service begins at 10 a.m. Please observe these social distancing guidelines when you worship with us in-person.
Watch us on Facebook: Our services will continue to be livestreamed to Facebook. You may view the services live or as a replay on www.Facebook.com/DanburyChurch.
I can’t think of a more important time for us to return to our physical home than right this minute. Whenever the world becomes confusing, even threatening, those who have followed Jesus for over 2000 years find strength when they care gathered with their Family of Believers. And even more wonderfully, after six months of meeting online, we have attracted more seekers of light, in the form of those who have found us on Facebook Live, and they, too, can continue to gather with us to praise and petition God for God’s help. That new branch of worship will continue online permanently.
I will, however, beg your patience this first Sunday back together as we work with new camera equipment and sound, because it will be a bit of a “shakedown cruise” until we fine-tune ourselves. Please grant us patience. Come and join us by putting your hand into the hand of God in person. Or if you’re not yet ready to come back or prefer your living room, please continue to worship with us on Facebook Live, or watch the recorded service on Facebook whenever you need inspiration. We really are coming home to one another, wherever we are. -- Pastor Pat Kriss
