Music Ministry: Thanks Be to God
The wonderful choir that supported the music of the past two weeks.
(April 10, 2015) “Thanks be to God…” These words are used again and again in scripture and especially in sacred music. I will use them in reference to the wonderful choir that supported the music of the past two weeks. Between the “Hosannas” and the “Alleluias”, the introits and the sermon responses, they have been the heart and soul of the music program here at First Church!
It was such a pleasure to see so many of you join the choir in the singing of The Hallelujah Chorus. Please fill free to come back and sing with the choir. As you can see, we can always use a couple of voices in each section. We usually sing twice a month. The Sunday’s that we sing we meet at 9:50 in the choir room. Once every 6 weeks we have a Thursday evening dinner/ rehearsal beginning at 6:30. So please think about it.
And cheers for the children’s church school choir! Thank you Pat Moriarty and to the parents who made sure that their children were here in attendance. I think everyone agrees that those smiling faces certainly brighten our sanctuary!
I also want to thank Pastor Pat for her kind words each week – although not always warranted. Working together is not only expected, but for me it is also a pleasure. Hymn selections, anthem wording, or sermon responses are often discussed weekly – when sickness doesn’t get in the way as it did many times this past winter.
It is my pleasure to announce that this coming Sunday, Beate Neblett will be our soloist, but not in the ordinary sense. Selections from G. Telemann will not be sung, but rather played on the treble recorder. So I will rest the 32 foot rank, and move to the quieter organ voices, and piano for her support.
Jazz Sunday is scheduled for April 19th. The choir is scheduled for April 26th and again on May 3rd - Anniversary Sunday.
Peace and harmony through music,
Jim
