From Pastor Pat: Forgiveness and Justice

A mini-series on the hard questions of life

(May 15, 2015) We’ve all experienced it. Occasions in life when someone or something perpetrated a horrendous wrong against us, or someone we love. We stand there, wearing our Christianity wrapped around our souls, knowing full well that Jesus has told us to respond to such injury with forgiveness. And yet, deep down underneath our Christian cloak, we can feel our hand clenching into a fist that seeks retribution. What do we do with this feeling? Are there, indeed, things too evil to forgive?

This Sunday in our service -- a Jazz Sunday -- as a part of a mini-series on the hard questions of life, we will explore a topic for which, in the end, there will not be a complete and neatly packaged answer. But there will be an exploration of our relationship with Jesus’ teachings and some surprising insights into the nature of forgiveness and its twin commandment, seeking justice. (When you think about it, the Blues grow directly out of the pain of injury and loss.)
