Music Ministry: Memorial Day and Pentecost

A soldier's reflection, and a celebration of the spirit of Jesus

(May 22, 2015) The music that is planned for this Sunday supports two themes – Memorial Day and Pentecost.  The Prelude is a very special song related to the effects of a soldier’s death on his family. The message is a sad reflection of a soldier’s thoughts while at war, and a conscientious reminder why we need to recognize those who have died while in combat. I am very pleased that this will be sung by a member of our church who is not a choir member.

The anthem that is scheduled to be sung by the choir will celebrate Pentecost – the spirit of Jesus. Hymn choices reflect both themes and are well known!
The children’s choir will be singing at the June 14 Sunday service. Pat Moriarty will be rehearsing with them next Sunday the 31st and June 7. Please make every effort to have your children in church on those days. We all enjoy listening to them.

There are three very active choruses in our area. The CCS – Connecticut Choral Society under the direction of Eric Dale Knapp, The Master Chorale under the direction of Tina Heinrich, and The Danbury Concert Chorus under the direction of Christine Howlett. All are superb choruses. The CCS and CMC are auditioned choruses. The DCC is the only non-audition chorus, but you must be able to carry a tune to the satisfaction of the choral director.
Then there is the First Congregation Church choir under my direction, where there is no audition, but just the hope that you can carry a tune and read music to some degree. Our choir is also one of the finest in the area. I am so grateful to have a handful of dedicated, musically talented people.  We can always use a couple of voices at all parts. Please consider.
Relaxing moments through music,
